The rainbow novel by dh lawrence6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() His primary focus is on the individual’s struggle to growth and fulfilment within marriage and changing social circumstances, a process shown to grow more difficult through the generations. Within this framework Lawrence’s essential concern is with the passional lives of his characters as he explores the pressures that determine their lives, using a religious symbolism in which the ‘rainbow’ of the title is his unifying motif. ![]() ![]() The Rainbow is about three generations of the Brangwen family of Nottinghamshire from the 1840s to the early years of the twentieth century. Today it is recognised as one of the classic English novels of the twentieth century. In 1915, Lawrence’s frank representation of sexuality in The Rainbow caused a furore and the novel was seized by the police and banned almost as soon as it was published. Ordinary grace audio book6/7/2023 ![]() ![]() I will be looking for this author and narrator other works.Īfter a series of great murder mysteries, staring Cork O'Conner, Kruger has come up with a genius of a stand alone coming of age, murder mystery, and trestles on the "awful grace of God". ![]() He does the voice of the deaf, women, men, children, Indians, aristocrats to perfection. Rich Orlow is such an enhancement to this story by giving every character an identity. I would be thrilled if this would become a series book though. If you have, be very careful to read the synopsis carefully for this is a stand alone book. Just when I thought I saw a direction this was going - I found myself surprised. I plowed through this for I could NOT put this down. Once started I was completely immersed in each member of this family and all the people that they come in contact with. The family in this book are that of the town's minister's which lends itself to discussions of religion. ![]() One of the main characters is a wonderful peaceful father who has to guide his children through the animalistic ways of mankind. A beautiful tale with a 'morals in an immoral world' theme. So much so that I found myself listening to this story in black and white. It's a mystery that takes place in Minnesota in 1961 with classic literature very reminiscent of To Kill A Mockingbird. ![]()

The other miss6/6/2023 ![]() ![]() Hopefully her two week disappearance can be covered up, but if not, well, he’ll be honorable and marry her, after he tells her who he really is. ![]() However, because of Reasons, Andrew must bring Poppy along on their next voyage, much to everyone’s chagrin and inconvenience. So, at least in this case, Andrew will act like a gentleman in all things. Whose brother happens to be married to Poppy’s first cousin. Instead, the captain, one Andrew Rokesby, alias Andrew James, is a gentleman. If this were a bodice ripper, there would be some ravishing with either questionable or non-existent consent (I’ve definitely read that book), but that is not how Julia Quinn rolls. Poppy Bridgerton, a gently bred young lady, is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is picked up by pirates, who unceremoniously dump her in their captain’s cabin. The Other Miss Bridgerton has a great premise, especially if we’re going to deconstruct some Romance Novel Tropes. ![]() Overall: The dialogue was too sparkling and overshadowed a good story Heat Factor: A tiny bit of heat, right at the very end ![]()
